“The Forgotten Squad: Saigon”
They called in the last aircraft. President Nixon and Henry Kissinger were unaware that they left a squad behind. As Private Michael Carpenter was getting ready to board, there was a pile of material lying on the floor. He saw this metal globe and anchor of the Marine Corps, grabbed it before they threw thermite grenades to burn the rest of the material down, and ran onto the aircraft carrying it underneath his arm while the rest of the embassy materials were burned.
